Art is meant to stir the soul, and such is the case with the stunningly beautiful and relevant indie/alternative rock act Katrin the Thrill. It’s easy to come to the conclusion that the music industry is plagued with the hipster virus and no one is telling the truth, but that would be a lie, my friends. It’s artists like Katrin the Thrill that remind us all that music still has power, and one that can be wielded to it’s maximum potential, which is internal realization in the human mind/soul. In the tradition of great female singers such as Patti Smith, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Bjork, and PJ Harvey, Katrin the Thrill singer Katerina Panopoulou is intense and engaging in just about every way possible.

The fact that I hadn’t heard of Katrin the Thrill before today makes me wonder about how many great artists are currently going unnoticed. Perhaps the market is oversaturated or perhaps most music blogs and authorities have bad taste. Regardless, I’m glad her music arrived at my desk, as this is exactly the kind of rock music that could use a revival. Katrin the Thrill’s EP release is called “Earth Is Calling Us” and it’s amazing throughout. If I gave ratings it would be 10 out of 10. What makes it all the more special is how rare her particular brand of raw, honest rock is. At times atmospheric and soothing and at others demanding and arresting, “Earth Is Calling Us” should be required listening to serious music listeners.

And by the way, just in case you’re looking to be deeply moved by a music video, an art that has been somewhat lost, look no further than the gorgeous and thought-provoking video for the title track “Earth Is Calling Us” below.
