Spike Polite & Sewage Release Uncompromising Punk Not Dead Vinyl with Solid Bass Records

Unapologetic, grassroots and punk for the sake of punk band Spike Polite & Sewage are about to drop their first release since the head-crashing Pandemonium EP, and as usual, it pulls no punches. Aptly named the Punk Not Dead EP, this raucous upcoming piece from NYC punk rock legends Spike Polite (a vocal duo consisting of Reagan Youth and Cheetah Chrome), Michelle Shocked (yes, that Michelle Shocked), Antony Romero and the iconic Beast on drums centers around the passion, the message and the politics of punk.

Reflecting the values of the Tompkins Square Park Riots in 1988 against gentrification, police brutality and the insane rent hikes seen in that era in New York, Sewage have taken up that mantle as the past repeats itself all over the Western world. Now more than ever, the world needs punk, according to this and other artists fed up with the commoditization of humanity: we need the loud, the brash, the wake-up call before it’s too late.

Far from a nostalgic whine about the glory days of punk, Spike Polite & Sewage intend to use Punk Not Dead to shake things up and wake people up again.

Spike Polite & Sewage represents the freedom to ‘play what you want.’ Sewage is a story of survival and continuity for society’s discontents calling for justice, to stop regression to hatred and ignorance, uniting people to make necessary changes — sooner than later — so no more blinded eyes.  And let’s  party.

There’s nothing more to be said, really. Punk Not Dead carries the same manic, twisted and darkly ironic energy with politics to match that fans have come to love from Pandemonium and the acclaimed jam album The Italian Sessions to bark their message to the masses, once again best expressed by the band themselves:

“Punk Not Dead”  produced by Ted Sabety for Solid Bass Records
“Punk Not Dead”  is a salvo of insurgent punk rage: in-your-face social satire in reaction to the witless decline of western civilization.

Sewage is an underground expression of  L.E.S. New York street punk that erupted out of the Tompkins Square Park riots against police brutality that was paving the way for gentrification. Guttersnipe runaways from broken homes, surviving in Gotham squats, finding community when Dee Dee Ramone became mentor to the band, through a 7” release at Bleecker Bob’s Worldwide on the Intensive Scare label produced by Electric Frankenstein and Paul Kostabi (Youth Gone Mad, White Zombie). Playing across the country and regularly in the New York City area the music of Spike Polite & Sewage represents the freedom to ‘play what you want.’ Sewage is a story of survival and continuity for society’s discontents calling for justice, to stop regression to hatred and ignorance, uniting people to make necessary changes — sooner than later — so no more blinded eyes.  And let’s party.

Brash, ironic & darkly comic, the quartet is led by Spike Polite (Reagan Youth, Cheetah Chrome) on vocals with Michelle Shocked (the renowned singer-songwriter) slinging bass and singing harmony, Beast’s relentless driving on drums while Tony Romero gutpunches the guitar.  Following a rampage of Fall 2023 live dates (Pittsburgh, Nashville, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin) Spike Polite & Sewage lashed out a new EP titled “Punk Not Dead”  produced by Ted Sabety for Solid Bass Records.

“Punk Not Dead”  tm  is a salvo of insurgent punk rage: in-your-face social satire in reaction to the witless decline of western civilization.  “Punk Not Dead,” pick it up on vinyl in January 2024, enjoy Side A’s rock rank raw sewage rock and flip it for punk-industrial-noise dance remixes (by XnormL) on the B Side.
